 Tazio Nuvolari

The Italians have nick-named Nuvolari as "Nivola" due to their great  affection for this pilot. He began racing in 1919 when he was 26.At the beginning he raced on two wheels and it was in 1930 that he left the motorcycles after winning two Italian Championships and many other international competitions.

The first success as a racecar driver of Nivola was in 1927 at the Montenero track with an Alfa-Romeo where he finished second. After that the glamorous uprising of Tazio Nuvolari began. Wherever he went he achieved a win after win. From Monza to Les Mans, from New York to the Nurburgring, from Monaco to the 1000 mile races , from Tripoli to the Tourist Trophies - he always came first.
Nivola fought from the start to the finish with the same passion and frequently won with less powerful cars due to his  great driving ability, especially in the corners.
Having broken  the ice between him and the financial directors of racing teams, Nuvolari could finally choose a machine that best suited him.In 1927 Tazio finally got hold of a more competitive racecar - the Bugatti 35, with which he won the Italian GP at the circuit of Rome.In 1928 he won the second 1000 mile race and for the first time he raced for the official Italian racing team.He drove a Bugatti 43 with an eight cylinder supercharged engine.
After the death of his teammate Bordino his greatest rival became Varzi, who also showed evidence of unbelievable driving skills. 1932 was the the last though year for Tazio Nuvolari. During that year he drove an Alfa-Romeo 1750 with which he managed to finish in 9th place in Mugello. The Alfa was a nervous and incredibly fast car,but really hard to tame, something that responded to the racing style of Nivola. With this car he entered the circle of the greatest racing drivers in history.
At one 1000 mile race Nuvolari fought a driver battle with Varzi that went all the way
from Bologne to the finish. During that unforgettable and filled with action night the first place constantly changed between the two competitors. As dawn broke Nuvolari overtook  Varzi and achieved a flawless victory that remains one of the greatest victories in his career.
